Optimize Your Google My Business Page

Keep your Google My Business Page updated and fully optimized for local SEO. Google uses your business information to find the best results for those searching the internet in your area. If you haven't claimed your business, are missing important information like office hours, phone numbers and address data, then you may be skipped over in favor of local competitors who take their SEO more seriously.

Publish Content Specifically for Customer's in Your Neighborhood

If you're only publishing generic blog posts and service pages, then you're competing on a national level for attention. While this may be an effective approach for large corporations, it isn't the best strategy for small businesses looking for local customers. If you own a coffee shop in Los Angeles, California, it won't help if your blog post is appearing in the search results of people living in Atlanta, Georgia. Make sure that you're using the name of your city and state when publishing content and utilizing locally targeted keywords as often as possible.

Create Landing Pages for Each Location

Does your company have more than one location? Be sure to include a landing page for each physical address. This will help make sure that the appropriate store will appear on Google Maps. Otherwise, customers who are driving around the area may remain unaware that you have a store, restaurant or office near them. Service based businesses such as plumbers, electricians and landscapers may also want to include landing pages for each city in your service area, to ensure that people in those locations know you're available.

Use Structured Data Markup on All Web Pages

Make sure that your company's data are included on every web page. This will ensure that a local customer searching for a keyword used in one of your blog posts will easily find your content. One way to achieve this is to include what's known as schema markup or structured data markup, so that your business type, address, phone numbers, business hours, latitude and longitude are fully integrated throughout your website. The easier it is for Google to crawl through your content, the more likely it will be to appear at the top of the search engine results page.
