What is Google's Knowledge Graph?

You have probably seen the Knowledge Graph on Google's front page a million times, but you may not have realized what it was or how you could get your own website featured on it. Google's Knowledge Graph is a database which scours the internet to find the best data available online for frequently used keywords. Then, Google features the information at the top of the page, so users can quickly receive the best answer to their question without having to visit a dozen different articles or blog posts.

As previously mentioned, the greatest benefit of being featured on the Knowledge Graph is gaining access to a featured listing at the top of Google's search engine results page without having to pay for it. It also raises your authority and brand recognition, and shows online users that your website is a trusted authority with highly valuable content. People often prefer to get their information from websites that have social proof of its relevance, and there's nothing like being featured by Google itself to show potential customers that you have what it takes to help solve their problem. 

Tips to Help Your Site Appear on Google's Knowledge Graph

The first step to getting featured on Google is to create your content in a way that provides maximum value for humans, not bots. Many people wrongly assume that they need to stuff their articles and product descriptions with keywords. They focus on getting the attention of Google's algorithm, rather than publishing excellent content that their customers will enjoy and benefit from reading. Ironically, Google's algorithm is highly advanced, and purposefully searches for content that has the maximum relevancy to the topic. Posts and pages that have excessive keywords, have a limited word count or seem irrelevant will be tossed out in favor of better material that Google's users will appreciate the most. Make sure the keywords chosen appear in the Title, URL, meta description, introduction and at least once or twice in the body of your paragraphs. Doing so will provide the keyword in the preferred locations, and will ensure you aren't overusing it. It's also a good idea to create a profile on both Wikipedia and Wikidata.org where Google gets a lot of its information for the Knowledge Graphs. You'll also want to have an engaged and active social media presence, because the more data Google can collect about your business, the higher the chances will be of appearing on the Knowledge Graph panel.
